Switching is a technique which is used in large network, large I mean those networks that contains large no. of node, wire, device etc.In this type of networks it is difficult to connect nodes point to point. So in this situation we used Switching Technique. In simple words Switching is a hardware or software device which create a connection between one or more than one device/node/computer.

Note:-Switch,hub and Ethernet are different to each other.

Type Of Switching:-

Switching is generally divided into three parts namely Circuit Switching,Packet Switching, and Message Switching. Now I discuss these terms briefly. So starting with Circuit Switching.

1)Circuit Switching:-

Circuit Switching is a switching technique which create a point to point connection between two or more devices physically. In other words Circuit Switching is a device with 'n' input and 'm' output that create a point to point connection between input and output links. Now at this situation 3 cases are arises namely expansion, connection, concentration.

Expansion case:-When 'n' input is less than 'm' outputs like as below diagram.

Concentration case:-When 'n' inputs is greater than 'm outputs.

Connection case:-When 'n input' is equal to 'm'output like as below diagram.

2)Packet Switching:-

Packet Switching is a switching technique which(network data) are transmitted in discreet unit of LAN block called Packets.

Maximum no. of packet=Longer Transmission are broken in multiple packet.

Packet Switching has two approach namely Data gram(In this technology data gram belongs to same packets) and Virtual Circuit(In this technology relationship b/w packets belongs to message).

3)Message Switching:-

It is also called as Store and forward technology. In this technique  a node receive  a message and store the message until the free and appropriate route is found and if found then send it otherwise stored it.The main difference between Message and Packet Switching is in Message Switching the message is stored and related from Secondary memory and In Packet Switching the message are stored from primary storage.
