Management Information System or MIS is the information system which is used to integrate pure system.MIS is the combination of 3 words i.e Management,Information,System.In which term Management means tools,functions,planning,tasks etc.,Information means raw,facts and figures and System is the combination of interrelated component.

Two type of MIS:-


1)Manual MIS.

2)Automated or computerised MIS.

Management Information System is the extension of Transaction Processing System(TPS).In Management Information System we put value added features in their processing.Management Information System contains exceptional information.


Role/Essentials of Management Information System:-

Data Dictionary is a tool which is used to create/design database.Data Dictionary creates table,table's field,table's attribute.This concept comes under DBMS(Database Management System).It maintain database information.It is also called as meta data(data about data).

Decision Tree


Decision Tree is the tool or we can say it is a technique that represent the conditions and actions in a tree format.Decision tree provide you a sequential method of decision making.

The concept of decision table and decision tree are same but their syntax and way of doing is different.Decision tree has 3 nodes i.e. decision node,possibility node and the last node.

Decision Table is the tabular representation of logic and decision.Sometime it is very difficult to create a flowchart for many condition,so at that conditions we used Decision table.So Decision table is a table which is used to create complex program logic of system/software.

Decision Table is divided into 4 parts:-

2)Actions


3)Condition Entries


4)Action Entries


Type of Decision Table:-


1)Limited Entry Table(Action and statement are full)


2)Mixed Entry Table(Action and statement are partially full)


3)Extended Entry Table(Action and statement are not complete).

Entity Relationship Model is the model which was introduced by P.P. chen.This model represent system data by its entity and relationships.This model is based on real world entities.

1)Entity:-Entity is a person,place,things,object which is used to grasp,collect,stores the data.

Types  of Entity:-

a)Weak Entity Set:-Weak entity are those entity type which are not formed primary key because of insufficient attributes.

b)Strong Entity Set:-Strong entity are those entity type which are formed primary key because of sufficient attributes.

2)Attributes:-Features of entity is called as attributes example name,address etc.

Type of Attributes:-

a)Simple Attribute
b)Composite Attribute
c)Single value Attribute
d)Multivalue Attribute etc. 

3)Relationship:-Combination of two or ore than 2 entities is called as Relationship.

Type of Relationship(According to connectivity):-

a)1:1 Relationship(One to One Relationship):-One entity related to 1 entity.Example



b)1:M Relationship(One to Many Relationship):-One entity related to more than 1 entities.Example



c)M:1 Relationship(Many to One Relationship):-More than 1 entity is related with one entity set.Example Students learn in class.Example

Cost Benefit Analysis


Cost Benefit Analysis is the procedure or a tool which is used to find the effectiveness of the system/project.It give the image of various cost and benefits.The main aim of cost benefit analysis is that to determined whether are system is financially good or not.

Problem with Cost Benefit Analysis:-

1)Valuation problem.
2)Completeness problem.
3)Distortion problem.

Types of Cost benefit analysis:-

1)Tangible cost and Intangible cost:-Tangible cost are those cost which are associated with information system and which are determined in advance(Example cost of workers,hardware etc.).

Intangible cost are those cost which are associated with information system but can not be determined in advance(Example loss of goodwill,breakdown cost etc.).

2)Fixed cost and Variable cost:- Fixed cost are those cost which are not changed(Example cost of h/w).

Variable cost are those cost which are not fixed(means which are change in according to duration of time).

3)Direct and Indirect cost:-Direct cost are those cost which are directly linked with the project(Example cost of rent).

Indirect cost are those cost which are not directly associated with the system(Example cost of insurance).

Conversion Process and its Methods


Conversion is a method which replace hardware,software etc. database into new database or in simple words Conversion is a process which convert the old system to new system for update technology,increasing capabilities of system etc.

Method/type of Conversion:-

1)Parallel Conversion:-Parallel conversion is the most secure conversion of all time.Both new and old system work at same time in parallel.

Advantages and disadvantages of parallel conversion:-

a)Not consumed time.

b)It guarantied of flow of data.

c)It is very reliable.

d)This technique is very costly because both system(old and new)working at same time.

2)Direct Conversion:-Direct Conversion is the conversion technique in which old system is directly terminated into the new system so this technique is very risky.

3)Phased Conversion or phase In conversion:-Phased Conversion or phase-In-conversion is the method of the conversion in which system is converted into the phases(phases by phases or function by function).

4)Pilot Approach Conversion:-Pilot conversion is a conversion method in which more than 1 system are working at same time.

System Maintenance methodology is the longest phase of SDLC(System Development Life Cycle)model.This phase come after the evaluation stage.This phase maintain the whole system process.

Type of System Maintenance:-

1)Corrective Maintenance:-It is used to correct error in newly built system.

2)Adoptive Maintenance:-It is used to upgrade this system as per the requirement of organisation,customer etc.

3)Perfective Maintenance:-It is used to improve the efficiency of computer.

4)Schedule Maintenance:-It is used to detect faults and remove it.

5)Rescue Maintenance:-It recover system in small period of time.

System Evaluation methodology is one of the most important phase in SDLC(System Development Life Cycle)model.This is a part of Implementation phase.It is also used in ERP.In this method we evaluate the whole system and checks its capability like:-
